The List

We made a list. A big, grown-up list. A list of things that need to get done around our house (or property).

On the list are relatively minor tasks like; ‘paint bathroom pipe’, and major ones, like ‘build new shed’. All require time, most require cash money. Oh the pains of being a grown-up!

Being me, and generally sitting on the positive side of the fence, I saw some opportunities to paint, to re-make, re-organize. DH saw a to-do list, I saw a sea of opportunity…and a boring to-do list.

So this weekend I knocked a few projects off the list. I also may have added an impromptu and unnecessary (in the grand scheme of things) project resulting from last weekend’s impromptu project, simply to cross it off the list – but I digress. (admit it. you do this too!) But I must say, just like the back door, it was worth it. Such a drastic change and I love it. (don’t judge our front porch – a new one of those is on the list too…).

All the patio furniture was taken out of our sunroom where it spends the Winter, cleaned, and set up. Same with the wicker sofa and chair. It’s delightful to have our outdoor living room and dining room back! I love spending time outside.

I did manage to find a half can of black spray paint, so may have tried it out on the wicker table. If you are keeping tabs, I have added ‘spray paint wicker furniture’ to the list:)

I also crossed off the list, ‘paint bathroom pipe;. Ever wondered why in all photos of our upstairs bathroom the door is slightly closed? The pipe was why. The original clay pipe was replaced a few years ago, and it was replaced with a giant black plastic one. U. G. L. Y.

I tried spray painting it (which is usually best for plastic) when it first arrived, but even with drop cloths and the window open the paint got everywhere – even on our 100+ year old hardwood floors. Which stopped me in my tracks. And there the pipe stayed. Barely half painted and ugly. For three years.

What it took was a serious amount of sanding and four coats of paint & primer in one white bathroom paint. And now I can take photos with the bathroom door open:) That sounds weird.

To reward my grown-up list crossing off activities, the universe rewarded me with this super fabulous frame (complete with broken mirror) on the side of the road. Naturally it came home with me, met some gold spray paint, and has new life in our guest room. I printed out a copy of Amy Levy’s poem ‘At a dinner party’ (which I love) on photo paper and stuck it to new white backing made from a bristol board. It is just the perfect size for the space.

Ah, the endless list. My grows and grows even though things continually get crossed off! Its the big ones like "new granite counters" that never seem to make it off the list, while "edging gardens" gets crossed off regularly.

LOL, so true! I started adding things like "new kitchen cabinets" to the list and DH reminded me of the difference between the need list and the want list...darn reality! LOL:)
