#12MonthsofDIY: Favourites and Some Reflections

Let’s start this post by saying, when I was asked to be part of the fun & magic of #12MonthsofDIY I was like this:

No kidding.

I high five-d the dogs even.

Why?

Well, for a few reasons.

1) I’ve been following each of these talented ladies for a long time. Most of us had never met IRL until September, but we follow each other on so many social media we’re like BFFs.

2) Each is so uniquely talented! I took each of them and their amazing skills as an opportunity to learn. Because of them, I am spending more time working on my photography, propping and vignettes, I am also trying my hand at more video and using new tools and techniques.

3) The challenge of each monthly theme was great for me. It forced me outside my comfort zone. But it also forced me to set some boundaries – like I wasn’t going to make something just to make it or finish the project. I wanted to challenge myself to only make things I would use, keep, and enjoy. Dare I say the word practical? Nope. Pretend I didn’t say that, and don’t ever say that word around me (or my shoes!) again. Blech. Can’t believe I even typed it. But you know what I mean. I don’t want stuff for the sake of stuff. It’s Heathy-Kondo;)

and finally,

4) I had a load of fun. I love each of the projects I completed, but the one I am most pleased with is (my very first one) the vinyl lettering above my home office door. Is it the lettering? Is it the glorious transom? Is it both? Who knows. All I know is, I love it.

Which was your favourite? Which project had you leaping out of your seat saying:

Was it the faux floral painting? The ribbon sunglasses storage? The arm knit blanket? The decoupage girl power mirror? Or, was it the office sign like me? I’d love to hear!

Thanks for jumping in! You brought such a fun element to our group, and I always looked forward to seeing whatyou had done.
I love a good transom, we had them in most of our dorm rooms and I wish I had been able to do some fun custom lettering like this!

Love your playful sense of humour. It was so fun working with you, and I agree being stretched to think up diy's with new materials was so fun, and working with these amazing women was awesome.

It has been so great getting to know you better Heather! I am glad you were able to join the group. I love your Office decal too, and a fave of mine is also the ribbon sunglasses storage. We could really use one of those around here! I have my one pair of prescription sunglasses and a few others for when I wear contact lenses (almost never) but the other people in my family seem to have 100 pairs! Happy New Year! I hope we'll continue to collaborate. xo Jo
